Capabilities

What we do in homes

From fault finding on a Tuesday morning to the full electrical package on a new build. Same crew either way.

Fault finding and repairs

Power out, a safety switch that keeps tripping, one circuit dead and the rest fine. We track down what is actually causing it rather than swapping parts and hoping, tell you what we found, and fix it.

  • Tripping safety switches and breakers
  • Dead circuits and power points
  • Lights flickering or failing
  • Burning smells and hot switches, treated as urgent

Switchboards and safety

Older Northern Rivers homes often still have ceramic fuses and no safety switches. A switchboard upgrade is the single biggest safety improvement most houses can make, and it is usually a one-day job.

  • Switchboard upgrades and rewires
  • Safety switches (RCDs) fitted and tested
  • Smoke alarms supplied, installed and tested
  • Safety checks before you buy or rent out a place

Lighting, power and fans

The part of the job people actually live with. Downlights, pendants, wall lights, outdoor lighting, extra power points and ceiling fans. If you have already chosen fittings we will install them. If you have not, we will tell you what works in the space.

  • Downlights, pendants and wall lights
  • Outdoor, deck and garden lighting
  • Extra power points and USB outlets
  • Ceiling fans and exhaust fans

Renovations and new builds

Full rough-in and fit-off, working to the builder's program. Worth getting us in early: lighting and power decisions are cheap to make on a plan and expensive to change once the plasterboard is on.

  • Rough-in and fit-off
  • Kitchen and bathroom renovations
  • Extensions, granny flats and studios
  • Working alongside your builder and cabinetmaker

Also on the tools for

  • Oven, cooktop and rangehood connections
  • Hot water system wiring
  • Air conditioning circuits and isolators
  • Data, TV and phone points
  • Shed, garage and studio supply
  • Pool and spa equipment circuits
  • Sub-boards and circuit upgrades
  • EV charger circuits

FAQ

Questions we get asked

Which areas do you cover?

The Northern Rivers, NSW. Ballina, Byron Bay, Lennox Head, Bangalow, Alstonville, Lismore, Goonellabah, Mullumbimby, Brunswick Heads, Ocean Shores, Evans Head, Casino and Kyogle, and most places between them. If you are not sure, ring and ask.

Are you licensed?

Yes. Alliance Electrical Contractors is a licensed electrical contractor in NSW and Queensland, NSW Lic No. 483884C and QLD Lic No. 1514062. We are also SAA accredited for solar work.

My safety switch keeps tripping. What does that mean?

It means the switch is doing its job: it has detected current going somewhere it should not. Usually that is a faulty appliance, water in an outdoor circuit or damaged cable. Unplug everything on that circuit and try resetting it once. If it trips again, leave it off and call an electrician, because a repeatedly tripping RCD is a fault, not a nuisance.

Do I need a switchboard upgrade?

If your board still has ceramic fuses, or no safety switches, then yes, and it is the single biggest safety improvement most older homes can make. Anything installed since the early 2000s is likely to have RCDs already. We can look and tell you either way.

How many smoke alarms does my house need?

In NSW, every home needs working smoke alarms on every storey, and in or near sleeping areas. Rental properties have extra obligations on the landlord. We supply, install and test them, and can check what your place currently has.

Can you install light fittings I have bought myself?

Yes, as long as they are compliant fittings sold for use in Australia. Bring them home and we will fit them. If you are still choosing, ask us first, because some fittings are much easier to install than others.

Do you guarantee your work?

Yes. All electrical work is warranted against defects in workmanship for 24 months from completion, and the warranty transfers to a new owner if you sell inside that period. Materials and components are covered by the manufacturer's warranty. If something we did is not right, we come back and put it right.

How do I get a price?

Call or send the job details through the quote form. We ask enough questions to know what the work actually involves, then agree clear pricing with you up front. Quotes on request.
